Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The purpose of this SIG is to offer a platform for critical and rigorous exploration of equal opportunities concerns including gender, ethnicity, class, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion.

Equality is ensuring individuals or groups of individuals are not treated differently or less favourably, based on their specific protected characteristics, including areas of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and age.

Diversity aims to recognise, respect and value people’s differences to contribute and realise their full potential by promoting an inclusive culture for all staff and students.

SIG members will promote equality and diversity by celebrating EDI practices and challenging inequalities by investigating various topics such as Women in STEM, LGBT+, moral perspectives of equality, diversity and inclusion, inclusion and special educational needs, inclusive curriculum in HE, safety and wellbeing of staff and students in higher education, inclusive education for refugees and migrants, black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) students attainment, tackling poverty in schools, global issues in gender and sexuality.
