In this first meet the team post of the new academic year, Dr Steve Dixon provides an introduction to his BESA Secretary role on the Executive Committee. Steve is also a Senior Lecturer at Newman University in Education; and his research interests include eLearning, social media and the use of multimedia in learning and teaching. Drawing on these research interests and professional experience, Steve has recently completed a blog post on the push for online content.
I would like to introduce myself. I am Steve Dixon, and I am currently the Secretary of the BESA Executive Committee. This role involves:
- Helping to organise and coordinate BESA Executive Committee meetings
- Coordinating and writing BESA Executive Committee meeting agendas
- Writing up the minutes for BESA Executive Committee meetings (members only)
- Writing up the minutes for the BESA AGM (public access)
Whilst the latter two are unenviable tasks, it was BESA that afforded me the opportunity to present my very first conference paper (many moons ago) that was also published as a journal article in educationalfutures, and I have always felt it important to “give something back” to the organisation. BESA conferences are always welcoming, friendly, collegiate and constructive events, and I would strongly recommend them for both aspiring and seasoned presenters.
