External Examiner Vacancy for BA Education at School of Education, Liverpool Hope University
The School of Education at Liverpool Hope University is seeking a new External Examiner to oversee the BA Education undergraduate degree in in this school. The appointment should begin in the 2020-21 academic year (starting in September 2021) and will typically last for four years.
The BA Education degree takes a disciplinary approach to the field of Education Studies, encompassing the disciplines of History, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology, all applied to the study of Education. It is delivered to both traditional students at our Hope Park campus as well as mature students at out satellite colleges in Bury and Blackburn.

- Examine assessment briefs, exam papers and student work to ensure academic standards and achievements of students are comparable with those in other UK higher education establishments of which the external examiner has experience;
- Provide informative comment and recommendations on whether the assessment process measures student achievement rigorously and fairly against the intended outcomes of the course/s and is conducted in line with the relevant policies and regulations;
- Attend examination board/s and submit an annual report;
- Engage in communication with the academic and course team in relation to quality assurance processes such as reviewing coursework title etc.
Previous experience as an External Examiner is desirable but not essential. A suitable candidate will have experience in teaching and examining at a UK higher education institution, have a good understanding of quality assurance issues at higher education level, including the QAA Quality Code and have specific subject knowledge in the programme being considered.
