‘Garbage in, Garbage out’: Do’s and Don’ts of simple quantitative analysis

If you’ve wanted to dip-your-toe into quantitative methods but found them a little intimidating, this session is ideal for you!

DATE: September 9th, 2020

In this session, Dr Cathal O’Siochru will offer a beginners guide to introducing quantitative analysis into your research. If you’ve wanted to dip-your-toe into quantitative methods but found them a little intimidating or overwhelming, then this session is ideal for you. Based on his experience guiding students at all levels through these same steps, Cathal will help you take your first steps into quantitative methods and analysis . The session will attempt to answer practical questions, such as “Do I need quantitative analysis in my research?” or the trade off between developing your own questionnaire compared to using an existing one; help you to make sense of theoretical issues such as reliability and validity; and completing a walk through of some basic examples of analysis which can be done with widely available software such as Microsoft Excel. Whether you are interested in adding to your own research or supervision toolkit, or just curious to see what all the fuss is about, this session aims to make a significant difference to your understanding of quantitative methods (and then provide you with the numbers to prove it!)

Organiser: Dr Aneta Hayes

The session will be delivered via Zoom.
